Working on Michael was a fantastic experience. Though the film is largely driven by the Michael Jackson catalogue, there was a need for dramatic underscore throughout, which I composed. It presented a unique challenge: finding a musical language that could function as a dramatic underscore while still living organically within the world of that catalog. The result was a sound that bridges those two worlds.
In many ways, the project also brought me back to a much earlier time in my life. As a teenager, I would listen to Thrillerand Off the Wall, completely immersed in that music. Quincy Jones was one of my earliest idols, so the opportunity to contribute to a film centered around that legacy felt particularly meaningful.
